DOTCONNECTAFRICA: Emancipating the youth.

I remember tired night, I had just arrived from work had not even unpacked my briefcase when I switched my Tv to an animated interview by K24’s Jeff Koinange , It was an young confident lady taking the questions with an unflinching ease, it was evident she had just been snatched from a conference, the topic of the day was about .africa, I don’t know how Jeff found this great lady out but it was certainly one of those days where nothing would distract your attention , not even a poor signal.

There I was taking in the interview word for word, it was amazing finally an great idea for Africa, certainly something I had not heard of in long time, to imagine that Africa was on the path towards owning a top level domain was exciting , I was ecstatic, it was Sophia Bekele, she was on a lone quest, trodden the path that not many a people would dare, worse off a lady she thought Africa needed to be put on the digital map, she had seen the precise dots to be connected. To put it simply she wanted the continent that has been considered the non starter, the home of conflict, hunger, AIDs and generally poverty, a needy continent to be amongst the leaders.

She believed in her home and though she was far far away in the home of technology, the very epicenter where the heartbeat is measured in gigabytes, Silicon Valley USAto be precise, she knew she had a task to accomplish , a load that weigh tonnes in her heart. To put it her own words she is pregnant with child , the unborn child DotAfrica , and until the gestation period of this child is over, her energy and desire will continually be focused on the pet project , DOTCONNECTAFRICA.

This idea whose time it is couldn’t have come at a better time ,a time when Africa is quickly taking the paces , a moment when information technology infrastructural growth is at an all time high , a time when the continent is coming alive with a dozen undersea fiber optic cables are linking Africa to the rest of the works ,carrying in it signals of great enrichment, data that defines the wealth that is yet to be harnessed in Africa , resources found in young people .

DCA with is the mother of generation.afica the only entity that has extended immense opportunity for young people to be part of history, to participate in the quest to rebrand their continent , to believe in the content and knowledge base that is untapped , the millions of web revolutionizing content that is yet to be hatched in the world wide web , the amazing applications that will drive mobile ,and web based content to change how businesses run.

Salute the organization that has refused to be bogged down by individuals with selfish interests , the ones that have become part of the sickly organizations and governments that have for ages have become accustomed with self enriching mechanisms , the same people who have taken every bright idea and dimmed it in one night , the teams that see every young person full of ideas as a potential threat that would blow off their cover and expose years of rot and manipulations.

DCA has stood out to not only as the youngest but the trailblazer taking every challenge with unprecedented courage and promise to deliver its promises to the disappointed continent , to emancipate the resources that have been misused and mischannelled , to recover and rejuvenate ideas that have been gagged and bring a new ray of hope, to put the African peoples on the digital map, bridging the digital gap.
